Nazareth, PA, August 28, 2004 Philadelphia City Councilman, Frank Rizzo, met with Tony George, President and CEO of the Indy Racing League (IRL) and the Indianapolis Speedway, and with Ken Unger, IRL Senior Vice President, on Friday, August 27, 2004, at the Nazareth Speedway to explore the possibility of bringing the first Grand Prix motorsports race to Philadelphia in 2006.
Dick Ritter from Ritter, Inc. Brand Marketing and Advertising in King of Prussia, PA accompanied the Councilman and made a formal presentation of the strategy, along with a possible course for the race in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.
The 2006 Philadelphia Grand Prix in the Park is being positioned as the centerpiece of a two-week celebration including: historical, cultural, musical and entertainment events, all of which showcase Philadelphia as a family vacation destination.
Philadelphia's Fairmount Park is the world's largest landscaped urban park comprised of 8,500 acres of rolling park land with multiple gardens, historic buildings, outdoor concert venues, the Philadelphia Zoo, and the historic Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Philadelphia's unique place in U.S. history, coupled with the majestic park venue, will make the 2006 Philadelphia Grand Prix in the Park an annual event in a spectacular setting not to be missed by automobile devotees and aficianados.
